Ford's new Euro look

In Europe, Ford is known for efficient yet stylish cars that are fun to drive. Finally, we'll get some of that here. Here are a few models that could make it across the pond.

The new Ford Fiesta is on the vanguard of a new "One Ford" movement. Ford wants more of its vehicles to be largely the same in different markets around the world. That means taking more of the cars it makes for the European market and selling them in the U.S.

Right now, very few Ford cars on Europe's roads are familiar to Americans. Converging global tastes make "global cars" possible where they might not have been before, Ford says. Drivers everywhere are shifting towards, smaller, more fuel-thrifty vehicles. And they're also interested in style - even in the least-expensive cars.

Ford's European models already exhibit great fuel economy and much more eye-catching designs than we see here in the U.S. That means that, for Ford, the center of the world is shifting to the Continent.

The Fiesta, which is a little smaller than the Ford Focus is slated to arrive in the U.S. about 2010. It will compete directly against hot-selling cars like the Honda Fit.
